Lincoln United v Bishop Auckland

Recap

A rare dry weather day meant the game was given the early go-ahead as Bishops’ made the long trip to Lincolnshire, Robbie Spence and Vinnie Steels returning to the starting XI and newest signing Ryan Wright taking his place on the bench.

The worst possible start saw the home side, also on a recent unbeaten run, take the lead with a shot by Brown after a number of appeals by the defence for fouls in the build-up.

Steels saw his corner strike the near post after 8 minutes, and a moment of pinball in the home penalty area was the closest Bishops’ came to levelling it up before the break, three efforts blocked in front of the goal line.  Lincoln were reduced to a couple of long-range efforts off target, and just before the whistle for half-time, defended a low Metz cross well.

Within ten minutes of the second half, Jarvie, Thexton and Wright had all come on to inject added impetus into the Bishops’ attack, with Jarvie seeing a good effort tipped over the bar by home keeper Richardson.

Bishops’ effort to get back into the match was being met with similar stuff from the resolute home side, which meant further chances were few and far between and with seven minutes of normal time remaining, Hopson replaced Blackford.

Norton kept out a rare home attack with a good near-post save as stoppage time was signalled, and the ‘Whites’ held out to put a huge dent in Bishops’ survival hopes and break Martin Gray’s unbeaten start to the job.
