Recap
An excellent all-round performance saw an unchanged Bishops’ starting XI dominate play off chasing Heaton to come away with a vital three points and another clean sheet in the process.
No fewer than three one-on-one opportunities were carved out before the opening goal on 35 minutes. Roberts, Harrison and Jarvie were all thwarted by former Bishops’ keeper Alfie Gordon before a looping cross from Potter was met by Steels, who got a good contact on the ball just ahead of his marker. The ball dropping in to the net.
A Liam Jarvie rocket four minutes before the interval was no more than Bishops’ deserved, the forward bringing down the ball and firing into the top corner from ten yards out.
The two-goal cushion showed no sign of being under threat from the visitors in the second half as Jarvie had a shot blocked and sub Thexton scooped over the bar from close range under pressure from Gordon.
Heaton did have a lot of the ball for a period of time but was met by a disciplined defence, only creating an opportunity with 87 minutes on the clock when the exceptional Almond slid in to execute a perfectly timed tackle with a forward bearing down on Norton’s goal.
