Recap
A poignant minutes applause before kick off to appreciate the late Charlie Townsend set the tone for this Easter Saturday clash with Garforth Town. Bishops’ begun well and Blackford fashioned an early shooting chance but his shot drifted high and wide of the target.
Dean Thexton tested visiting keeper Flatters with a shot from the edge of the box before the returning Wayne Whitfield produced what proved to be the all important goal on 24 minutes. Lambert fed the ball to the midfielder and after a touch Whitfield let fly with a swerving shot that cut Flatters in two on its way in to the net.
The away side had a couple of efforts off target from promising positions, and on 38 minutes Bishops’ had to reshuffle the defence when Potter was injured with Robertson moving to right back and Risbrough taking up the left back position. This did not deter the two blues with Robertson going on to claim the MOM.
A second half that was increasingly attritional saw Blackford scuff a good shooting opportunity high and into the hands of Flatters while at the other end Norton’s handling was secure enough to handle the direct approach from the ‘yellows’ as they tried to break down a well organised home defence.
After nine minutes of injury time Bishops’ were able to celebrate a win that keeps the prospect of a late escape from relegation a reality.
