The Martin Gray era got off to a winning start at Bridlington, Lee Hume debuting in midfield and Henry Popple, Liam Potter and Josh Robertson going straight into the side, making their second debuts for the club.
A rejuvenated Liam Jarvie rattled the home crossbar inside the opening couple of minutes with a volley. On 26 minutes, a free kick on the left was played into the ‘Brid’ box and Brown helped the ball on its way to the far post, where Almond grabbed his first goal of the season, tapping in to an empty net.
The lead was wiped out just three minutes later when a weak header back to Popple was intercepted and tapped in by Coulson. However, very quickly Bishops were back ahead when an in swinging corner from Hopson was punched into his own net by Dash, under pressure from Brown.
The fourth an final goal of the game, all coming in this ten minute spell, gave Bishops a crucial two goal lead. Hopson was fed by Risbrough and the midfielder playing in his more effective advanced role, deftly chipped Dash from just inside the box. Right on half time the home side almost got another back when a long throw was tipped onto the bar by Popple.
Bishops had a great chance ten minutes after the break when Almond produced a cross which Brown headed downwards but a defender cleared off the line.
The rest of the game was managed effectively by Bishops’ with Thexton, Blackford, Coppinger and Whitfield all making appearances from the bench.
