Recap

Bishop FC 5-2 Carlisle City FC

A stunning man-of-the-match performance from Louis Johnson and a thunderbolt from Liam Henderson handed Bishop victory in a seven-goal thriller.

Composure was what it took to open the scoring for Carlisle as Jordan Holt tucked away the rebound from Ryan Catterick. Bishop responded to Carlisle’s opener through defender Rio May five minutes after Holt’s finish. Two assists came in the 29th and 85th minutes provided by star fullback Dane Burlace. Own goals were scored in the 30th and 50th minute by Robert Mccartney and Kieron Olson. Henderson capitalised on poor defence from the away side, while John Howard’s superb solo goal provided comfort for the home side as they led by two goals in the 54th minute. The phenomenal performance was rounded off by man of the match Johnson with the seventh goal of the game. Bishop looked to extend their three-game win streak in the Northern League Division one against ninth-place Carlisle City FC.

The game from the offset seemed to be an interesting matchup as within sixty seconds Henderson curled a strike just narrowly wide of the post. 13 minutes had passed when Johnson skied a crucial chance shot after the deflection which resulted from a back pass from Olson. The opener was scored by the visitors with 24 minutes played as a spectacular half-volley by Dan Kirkup was parried onto the post by Catterick, however, a composed Holt tucked in the rebound. However, five minutes was all it took for the home side to equalise as Rio May knocked the ball in from the set piece assisted by Burlace.

Just as the half-hour mark passed Jordan Palmer crossed the ball into the box fortunately for the away side the ball kindly deflected off Mccartney past Catterick and into the net regaining the lead for the away side. Shortly after Carlisle regained the lead bishop found an equaliser through Henderson, as he capitalised on a loose ball before slotting the ball away right-footed to the keepers right 10 minutes before the break. The ball was whipped into the box this time fortunately for the home side deflecting into the net from Olson following a cross by Liam Cooke, Bishop regaining the lead five minutes into the second half. After a superb solo run by Howard, he hit the ball with his laces rifling past Simon’s Scott goal with 54 minutes played. The home team were comfortably ahead by two goals. Johnson rounded off the scoring putting the ball past Scott at the near post five minutes before the full-time whistle assisted by Burlace.
