A spirited late comeback from the visitors gave the Bishop faithful that sinking feeling for the second successive league game.
A strong start from the two blues saw Seaham pegged back in their own half for the majority of the opening 30 minutes but it was a solitary Thexton goal that separated the sides before the ‘Star’ began to get going. The impressive Dane Burlace was the provider as he stood up a perfectly measured cross for the centre forward to stoop down and head home from 8 yards out.
Prior to the breakthrough on 15 minutes, there was a flurry of chances on Jennison’s goal with Johnson coming the closest after a good run into the box as a covering defender cleared off the line. As the half drew to a close Seaham tested Catterick following a passage of play where Bishops’ intensity seemed to drop off.
Within 10 minutes of the re-start Thexton had his second goal of the evening when Giles beat a defender to a loose ball, and the forward produced a beautiful dink over Jennison. Giles could have squared to Thexton for his hattrick four minutes later but instead drilled a low shot that clipped the outside of the far post.
Bulmer replaced Giles on 81 minutes and almost instantly Seaham had an unexpected route back into the game when they were awarded a penalty for a handball offence. Hailes stepped up and sent Catterick the wrong way to provide the home side with a nervy final seven minutes. Morgan Dart was the Seaham saviour as he swept in the equaliser two minutes into added time, giving Bishops next to no time to respond.
