Recap
Another Bishops performance in which we established a clear superiority, but where we diced with disaster often enough to keep Northwich interested.
It took until stoppage time in the first half for us to turn the dangerous play into a goal ~ and that came when a corner was half-cleared to the lurking Gott, who drilled it hard and low through a crowded box. A well-taken goal at a perfect time. Before that, Victoria had 2 players helped from the field after injuries which didn’t appear to involve anyone else.
To complete a hat trick, Bishop’s own Liam Cooke pulled up with what looked like a VERY painful groin injury and had to be subbed. Before halftime, Bishop had peppered the goal, but every shot was blocked, wide or hitting the woodwork. Victoria had loud shouts for a penalty (too loud and foul-mouthed in the case of their manager, who was astonishingly shown only yellow for offering the ref an f***ing opinion of his decision). Replays show that the Victoria player tripped himself and the ref was right.
After halftime, Bishops again hit the woodwork, but Liam Henderson put the game to bed with 2 well-taken goals ~ a header and a shot. Both looked easier to miss, but his finishing was excellent. Really, the game could have run away from Northwich, but the Bishops created chances and threatening situations without any further score.
This was a convincing win and must establish Bishops as one of the teams others will want to avoid.
