Recap

Bishops exited the League Cup on penalties at the first round stage on a low-key evening at Heritage Park.  Charlie Watt and Dean Thexton failed from the spot as the Second Division side booked a meeting with Jarrow FC in the next round.

There were no major chances at either end in the opening exchanges as Bishops made seven changes from the weekend.  Dom Curl was handed his debut in the centre of defence and appeared to slot into the side quite comfortably as Bishops looked to dominate possession, building the play slowly from the back.

Horden threatened on several occasions midway through the first half before Bishops started to find space out wide with Burlace and Risbrough seeing an increasing amount of the ball.  It was Burlace who opened the scoring on the stroke of halftime when his inch-perfect free kick from just outside the box dipped just under the crossbar.

Rather than Bishops’ going on to win the game comfortably, Horden displayed a tenacity that gave the impression they were always in the game and as the home side’s passing became increasingly sloppy Neil Fannan pounced on a ball in the box to deflect it past Lincoln and bring the scores level.

Bishops almost responded immediately when Thexton was played in on goal but the striker was denied by the keeper.  As penalty kicks loomed large the game could have been won at either end, Watt crashing a shot off the face of the bar from distance while the visitors curled a shot just wide of Lincoln’s left-hand post.
