Bishop Auckland v Tow Law Town

v

Recap

Heritage Park records were smashed as Bishops’ hit struggling Tow Law for twelve.  It was Bishops’ biggest win at the ground, bettering the eight goals scored against Crook Town and also included a five-minute hat trick for striker Louis Johnson.

The outcome of the result was obvious from very early on and it was just a matter of how many Bishops wanted to score, as inside 12 minutes Errington and May had both finished off corners from close range.  The forwards then got amongst the goals as Giles fired in through a crowd of players, Henderson volleyed in a Giles cross and Johnson then took over with three further goals before the break.

The pick of Johnson’s goals was his second when a lovely pass from defence released Risbrough who provided the striker with a perfectly measured pass to slot under Proctor without breaking stride.  Just two minutes before, he had finished from close range and added Bishops’ seventh just before half-time with an unchallenged run through the defence before side-footing home with the keeper unmoved.

The beleaguered visitors were not helped by the failure of one of their ‘senior’ players to turn out for the second half.  Henderson quickly added to his tally, steering in a Johnson cross, and it was then Giles’ turn to complete his hat trick with a pair of good finishes as his regular runs through the heart of the visitors team were rewarded.

Thexton came on from the bench to complete the final 20 minutes and he wasted little time opening his account as he ran onto a through ball to neatly dink the ball over Proctor and into the far corner.  The forward missed a great chance before completing the afternoon’s goal glut as he rounded Proctor to tap into an empty net.

On a day to forget for Tow Law, they barely tested Catterick in the home goal, although the keeper did stay alert to make one solid save in the second half.
