It’s with a heavy heart I announce on behalf of the club, the departure of captain Andrew “Rio” May. A number of weeks ago we were approached by Redcar Athletic FC who wished to buy, Rio from his contract which we refused unequivocally. Whilst this was not what the club wanted, we had a duty to Rio to share this information with him and unfortunately for Bishop Auckland FC, Rio has decided he wanted the opportunity to speak to them.
Following discussions Rio has decided to take up their offer. Whilst, this is devastating for the club and I am sure for yourselves as supporters, we cannot stand in Rio’s way.
Rio has been a fabulous servant to the club, on and off the pitch. Rio will be a massive miss, but we wish him all the very best in his future endeavours.
Good luck Rio and the door at Bishop Auckland FC is always open to yourself and your family.
Rio has shared some words……
“Thank you to everyone at Bishop Auckland for your incredible support over the last two-and-a-bit seasons. It’s meant so much not only to me, but also to my family, who have always been warmly welcomed at HP.
Starting our journey by winning the Northern League in the manner we did is something I’ll never forget. It’s been an honour to be part of the club’s history.”
