Recap
Bishops finally returned to action after a string of weather-related postponements, and this county cup tie got off to a fast start when the hosts took a shock lead, Callum Oldfield blasted in a loose ball from a corner.
Bishops created a string of chances in a two-minute spell, Errington having a header cleared off the line, Gott and Fairley both testing the keeper and then what looked like a blatant handball in the box not given – the resultant corner then appeared to have crossed the line before being booted clear, again the officials were unmoved.
A deserved equaliser did arrive on 25 minutes when Weirs was felled as he fired the ball towards goal and Gott placed the penalty to the keeper’s right. Almost immediately Bishops were ahead when good build-up play ended with Giles firing a superb shot into the corner. It was soon 1-3 when the returning Patton got on the end of a floated cross from Risbrough at the far post as Bishops suddenly had the freedom of the park.
As it seemed Bishops would run riot Brandon hit back with a goal of their own when a soft shot by Brown seemed to deceive Liversedge.
It was a much quieter start to the second half, and on 57 minutes Liversedge made a fine save to tip over a shot. Five minutes later a mix-up between Burlace and Liversedge gifted Brandon an equaliser as Brown ran the ball into an empty net. The game was once again completely turned on its head as the spirited hosts edged ahead within minutes with a dipping shot by Lake shocking the two blues.
As the game entered the final ten minutes Bishops stepped up the pace again when Fairley guided a perfect header into the path of Weirs to nod over the line. In keeping with the pattern of the goals, Fairley himself swept in a shot from a Risbrough pass a minute later to book a quarter-final visit to Spennymoor Town.
