A late Seaham charge took some gloss off another win for Bishops’ but a fine first-half display saw the two blues once again in firm control for most of the game.

The home side was put under pressure from kick-off and after a series of corners, Fairley opened the scoring on 8 minutes with a low shot that followed a goal-line clearance.  Midway through the half, the skilful forward continued his run of spectacular goals when he picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and chipped the ball over Jennison into the far top corner (Pictured below).

Bishops were in cruise control by now and at times knocked the ball around the Seaham pitch like it was a training session, and it was no shock when Elgie further increased the scoring, knocking in a Risbrough right-sided corner from close range.

The home bench was becoming increasingly agitated at this point but in truth, none of their desperate screams of ‘instructions’ was ever going to be particularly helpful to their players who had barely been given the opportunity to threaten Liversedge’s goal so far.

Stephenson replaced Gott for the start of the second period and this seemed to alter the momentum of the game as Seaham pulled a goal back at the hour mark, Baggs diverting the ball over Liversedge following a good cross-field ball from Jones.

Bishops launched a first meaningful attack of the half on 65 minutes and it brought Fairley’s hat trick as a slick move down the left was finished off with the outside of the boot (Right) giving Jenninson no chance.

Further changes again seemed to de-rail Bishop’s grip on the game and on 87 minutes Bott had a shot which was parried out to Tommy Lawson to finish and then 3 minutes into added time Carl Lawson scrambled in a Seaham third goal meaning Bishops had to play out the remaining minute to secure the 3 points.
