Today was the annual meeting of the SSAFA , Armed Forces Charity. The charity meet every week at BAFC where armed forces veterans meet up and have free hot drinks and food. The SSAFA is a fantastic charity which has now been recognised in the Northern Echo Local Heroes Awards and they will be represented at the awards night on 8th December.
The group has grown from 15 to over 50 in the last 12 months. Ruth Wright has been the driving force of this charity in Bishop Auckland and is also recognised as an individual award winner at the Local Heroes night.
BAFC are more than happy to support this fantastic charity by providing a weekly venue for them to meet up.
Next Wednesday the charity and BAFC are providing Christmas Lunch for over 50 ex veterans at Heritage Park in the function room.
As a thank you to BAFC and for providing the venue the club were presented with a fantastic all weather recycled plastic blue picnic bench for supporters to use at the ground.
We are very grateful for this and will come in very useful for the club at not only matches but on days when our catering hut is open.
