On Sunday, Bishop Auckland FC held their fourth “Play at the Park Tournament” of the year and the first of the 23-24 season at the VEST Construction Stadium, Heritage Park. The tournament was kindly sponsored by Castle Carpets of Bishop Auckland.
The morning saw under 9 teams compete from Bishop Auckland St Mary’s, Darlington Spraire Lads, Boro Rangers Blacks and Reds, Seaburn, Belmont Eagles and two teams from Beamish.
The cup final saw Beamish and Seaburn compete and after a thrilling final, Seaburn were triumphant over the opposition, taking the cup back to Sunderland. After an entertaining plate final, with Bishop Auckland St Mary’s JFC u9 Kings facing Boro Rangers Black’s, St Mary’s ensured the plate remained on home turf. Well done to, Boro Rangers Reds, Darlington Spraire lads, Beamish and Belmont United who all went home with medals.

The afternoon saw the turn of the under 7’s. Some competing for the very first time. The Cup Final was an all Beamish affair, played in fantastic team spirit, both teams were a credit to their club.

The plate final was a really competitive game between AJX and Hilda Park. After a tight game ending in a draw, followed by penalties, AJX held their nerve to take home the trophy. Well done to Witton Park Palmerias and Corinthians, Newton Aycliffe Juniors and Hilda Park who all took medals home.

Thanks to referees Cobi, Koby, Alan and Jack who without them the games could not go ahead.

Thank you to volunteers, Steve, Doug, Sharon, Kevin, Mike, Jack, Bev, Marty and Stephen who without them generously giving their time, events like this could not take place.
Thank you to Debbie and Chloe, putting in a long shift, keeping everyone fed and watered.
We can’t forget to thank our brand new mascot, “Bobby the Bishop Boar” who made his tournament debut. Bobby proved very popular with all visitors today and he is sure to be back next time.
Following the tournament a number of teams had a tour of the player area with photos in the changing area and media area, you never know they could be future stars.
Thank you to everyone who supported the event, it’s very much appreciated.
