Bishop Auckland Football Club (BAFC) will be taking part in a Weekend of Action, proposed by the FA between 30th April – 3rd May. This will include a social media boycott across football, in an aim to raise awareness of the issues surrounding online abuse and highlight the greater preventative measures required by social media platforms to stop online abuse occurring.
As a collective, the game recognises the impressive reach and value of social media to our sport. The connectivity and access to supporters who are at the heart of the game remains vital and the value of this relationship has been demonstrated in a seismic week for us all, following the plans for the European Super League. However, more changes can be made, spreading awareness of online abuse along with the attempt to tackle it.
Alongside the Premier League and the EFL, The FA are asking clubs across the women’s football pyramid, National Football League and grassroots game to join the ‘social media switch off’ over the weekend of 30th April – 3rd May 2021. Subsequently, as a club, we support the reasoning behind the boycott and we will show our support by taking part on all social media channels connected to the Club or with any posts connected to the Club.
