Bishop Auckland 4-1 Durham City

Article written by Luke Atkinson

Yesterday was host to an entertaining behind closed doors friendly at the Bishop Auckland Brewing Stadium, under the warm summer sun. Bishop Auckland FC took on second division side Durham City in a dominant 4-1 display from the home side. ‘The Bishops’ took the lead after Chris Wynn converted into the roof of the net from close range, after being denied by the Durham City goalkeeper first time round. Not so long after, a shot from inside the box struck a sliding Durham City defender, resulting in an unfortunate own goal. Bishop then cruised into half time at 3-0 with Chris Wynn bagging his second of the game with a cool finish into the bottom left corner. Plenty to praise manager Ian Chandler for, with Bishop applying a clear press to cause problems for the Durham City back line and midfield.

With the two teams returning after half time, Ian made many substitutes – in order to assess the several players he has recently brought to the club. One of the substitutes, Tom Aldsworth, tucked one home from inside the box after a great pass across goal. As the sun started to put in, Durham City had a more positive end to the game, with a consolation goal coming midway through the second half. The game wrapped up as a comfortable 4-1 win for ‘The Bishops’.
