The club wishes to announce the departure of striker, Andrew Johnson. He has decided after much thought to leave the ‘Bishops’ after 7 years of service.
We would like to thank Andrew for his outstanding service to our club. After arriving in the 2011/12 season,he instantly became our top scorer, as well as top scorer in the League, winning the Golden Boot on 3 occasions in 2012 ,2013 and 2016 (scoring 51, 48 and 45 goals respectively).
After brief spells with Darlington and Spennymoor (winning the League with the ‘Moors’), he re-joined the ‘Bishops’ in November 2014 scoring an outstanding 18 goals in half a season.
Andrew’s scoring spree continued 2016/17 with 43 more goals. A further 35 goals followed up in 2019.
In total he scored 240 goals in 281 appearances.
It is a record which will last for years. We are very sorry to see him go and wish to extend our massive thanks to him for all that he has given this club as a fantastic player and great captain over those years.
Finally, he has earned the utmost respect of fellow players, supporters and club officials. We all wish him the best of luck and good wishes from all at B.A.F.C.
Some words from Andrew himself, regarding his departure:
This has probably been the biggest decision I have ever had to make in my footballing career, and I’m absolutely gutted to be leaving the club where I have played and enjoyed the majority of my football. I feel proud to have represented Bishop Auckland Football Club for such a long time and shared some great memories with some great people. I would like to thank everyone involved with the club for the support over the years and I would personally like to thank all of the fans at the club who have always supported and stuck by me. I wouldn’t have achieved what I have at Bishop Auckland FC without their fantastic support.
All the best to Andrew!
