Today Bishop manager Colin Myers appointed Andrew Johnson as club captain. Andrew a firm fans favourite has become a club legend in his time at the club and is a key figure within the dressing room. Last season Andrew become the all-time leading goalscorer of the club, breaking the club record with an amazing goal to appearance ratio.
Speaking after the 3-2 over Penrith Andrew said “I’m sure it’s a great feeling to be named captain of any football club but for me to be named captain of a football club like Bishop Auckland is an absolute honour. I would like to thank Colin and the club for giving me this massive role and responsibility in the team and hopefully I can pass on my experience to the younger lads coming through.”
Andre Bennett has been appointed vice captain, during Andre’s time at the club he has become an key figure with the team, his promotion to vice captain showing how well thought of he is at the club. Andre said “I’m obviously delighted to be vice captain of Bishop Auckland, It is a big thing for me and it was nice to lead the boys out today for the first time but most importantly get our first three points of the season. On to Saturday!”
On appointing both Colin said “These roles are vital to the success of the club and carry with them a huge responsibility. I have chosen Andrew and Andre because they both have all the qualities required to be successful in their roles. This is a massive honour for the two lads and I wish them all the success in their future roles.”
