Ladies March to the Final of the FA People’s Cup

Ladies March to the Final of the FA People’s Cup

The ladies travelled to Nottingham to take part in the semi finals of the FA People’s Cup after progressing from the regional heats earlier in February.

The day didn’t start well, with a couple of defeats against some decent small sided footballing sides, the ladies then turned up their performance to win games against teams from Nottingham Uni, and another side from Lincolnshire.

After the final round of group games, we learnt the ladies had qualified for the semi final, and that both teams who got to the final would qualify for the National Finals.

We came up against a team from Birmingham who had beat us earlier in the tournament, but the ladies wanted it more, winning the game 1-0 after a some great passing football resulted in a foul and a penalty for the 2 Blues, captain Leah Curry stepped up to calmly slot the spot kick home, sending the Bishop support wild.

With only 1 min 30 seconds left on the clock the girls held on and claimed their place in the final.

Goal scorers on the day:
Leah Curry (5)
Rebecca Pattison

Other squad members were:

Maddy Atkinson
Kerry Denham
Charlotte Arrowsmith
Sarah Frew
Natalie Wild

Details for the national final to follow.
