The Teessiders produced a strong pre-season which included an impressive 7-1 win here at Bishop Auckland last month whilst Villa has seen pre-season matches with the likes of Kidderminster Harriers and Hereford.
Last season the two encounters were rather close affairs, Villa edging a 2-1 win at Boro in early September whilst the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw in the return in mid-February.
Although consisting of several first-teamers during pre-season, Boro’s second string impressed with stand-out performances from the likes of defender Hayden Coulson, as well as midfielders Sam Folarin and Connor Malley; the Villa squad meanwhile sees an abundance of talent including experienced midfielder Callum O’Hare and the highly-rated Jacob Ramsey among others.
Other local interest sees both Newcastle United and Sunderland playing away from home, the former are at Reading whilst the latter travel to Stoke City (who Boro entertain at Heritage Park on August 16).
Tickets for Middlesbrough U23s vs Aston Villa U23s, kick-off at 19:00, are available on the gate priced at £3 (other than MFC season ticket holders who need to produce their card); parking available on a first-come-first-served basis.
