The Club are saddened to hear of the death of our former player Bobby Watson at the age of 83 years. Bobby was a member of our 1954 FA Amateur Cup Final team that took three games against local rivals Crook Town to settle. The Final played at Wembley ended 2-2 after extra time (the first ever draw in any cup final at Wembley) and the replay in front of 56,000 fans at St James Park, Newcastle also ended 2-2 after extra time. The Final was decided at Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough when Crook Town won 1-0. A combined gate of nearly 200,00 watched all three games.
Our condolences go to Bobby’s wife Heather and all his family. A minute’s silence in Bobby’s honour will be held before tonight’s game against Ashington at Heritage Park.
