The upcoming sportsman’s/presentation evening at Heritage Park has seen an enforced substitution in guest speaker with Chris Sutton, called up for the Scottish National Team, well television duties, being ably replaced by Welsh legend, Dean Saunders.

Having made 75 appearances for the Welsh National Team, Saunders is a great replacement for Sutton, and with stories to tell from his time spent playing for the likes of Derby County, Liverpool and Aston Villa, whilst also having spells in Turkey (with Galatasaray in 1995-96) and in Portugal (with Benfica in 1998-99).

During his playing career Saunders was a then-English record signing when joining Liverpool for £2.9 million in July 1991, partnering his Welsh strike-partner, Ian Rush, Whilst at Anfield Saunders would help the club win the 1992 FA Cup before becoming the first Red to score four goals in a European fixture, in a 6-1 win over Kuusysi Lahti in the UEFA Cup in September 1991.

Bishops Chairman, Steve Coulthard, said: “We are very sorry to say that Chris Sutton will be unable to make our presentation evening next month due to his TV commitments in Scottish football.

“We have looked for someone as good as Chris and we know we have found an excellent replacement in the former Derby County, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Galatasaray, Nottingham Forest, Benfica and Wales legend – DEAN SAUNDERS.
“He will be talking about his footballing life, experiences, and views, along with comedian John Stiles, in what will be a fantastic night; and we will also be having our presentation awards.”
