The last two games certainly bring home to you the contrasting emotions that we experience when being involved with football whether it is as a player, coach, manager, official or supporter.
Colin said after the Team Northumbria result last Saturday that ‘we were poor from start to finish’. I heard after the match the result being described other ways so it was with trepidation that we went to Boldon last night to face Jarrow Roofing. I am sure the players knew their performance on Saturday didn’t reach the standards we all know they can reach as the difference in the team performance against Jarrow Roofing was huge. The lads played as a team, their effort was faultless and the result, a 2-1 victory was well deserved. The result has moved us up the table and we all know we need to keep getting those points on the table. So, it is a big ‘well done’ to the whole team for turning things around and we now look forward to moving on to our next game on Saturday when we travel to Bedlington in the next round of the FA Vase.
Colin is working hard to bring in new players. Whilst he started looking to strengthen the squad he is now also looking to replace one or two players who have decided to move on to other Clubs. I would like to thank my colleague Tony Duffy for his work in supporting Colin in signing new players. I don’t think we always appreciate that signing new players can involve a lot of time and travelling to get the required signatures.
I would like to give a warm welcome to all the new players who have joined us and I send my best wishes to those players who have left the Club.
We’ve got a new line in the Club Shop – Regatta navy body warmers, on sale for £29.99. They are really good quality so why don’t you pop upstairs to the Club Shop at our next home game (Wednesday 27th September v Newton Aycliffe) to have a look and maybe try one on! While you are there you may want to buy a ticket for our Christmas party night which is being held at HP on Saturday 16th December. Tickets only £12 per person and we have food, a disco and a local musician to entertain us! Tickets are selling well with 40% now sold.
Steve Coulthard hosted a meeting last week at St Mary’s Juniors with coaches from Middlesbrough FC where he showed them around the Club and discussed the St Mary’s Juniors set up. Craig Liddle, Phil Mason and Allan Clark were all highly impressed with the set-up and St Mary’s have signed an agreement to work with Middlesbrough FC. Coaches from St Mary’s have been invited to visit Rockcliffe to observe the Boro coaches and some Boro coaches will visit St Mary’s to hold and observe some training sessions. This is a great achievement for Steve and all the coaches and volunteers at St Mary’s.
On Friday (22nd) we are hosting the Middlesbrough Under 23 v Stoke City Under 23 game at Heritage Park. The last game against Boro played at HP against Aston Villa was a 5-goal thriller and enjoyed by all who attended so hopefully both teams can produce another great game on Friday.
