Saturday saw us travel to league leaders North Shields who are unbeaten at home so far this season and we saw a great performance from our team. The game was decided by the penalty scored by North Shields following a foul in the box which looked a rather soft decision at the time but on seeing the video of the game it certainly was a correct decision by the referee.
Whilst the result was very disappointing – I think everyone thought we deserved at least a draw – you can always tell how well your team has done when the opposition supporters were bellowing for the referee to blow his whistle to end the game!
We may well have a say on who wins the Northern League this season; if South Shields win their three games in hand they will be only two points behind North Shields and we have both teams to play with North Shields visiting Heritage Park on 18th March and we travel to South Shields on April 1st. Congratulations to South Shields on reaching the semi-final of the FA Vase when they will play Coleshill Town over two legs.
We have a friendly match away against Willington on Tuesday (21st February) night with the kick-off at 07:30. There is a small admission charge to contribute towards the expenses of holding the game and it will give Steve and Gary an opportunity to give some of our players some match time which is really necessary as we have Priestly Griffiths and Alex Francis missing on Saturday due to suspension.
Saturday sees the start of six home games in a row which is not really ideal but we will just have to get on with it! All the Clubs we play at Heritage Park, apart from North Shields, are below us in the League so let’s hope for some good results. We are certainly capable of getting them.
At Saturday’s game we are holding a ceremony to commemorate the completion of the work to renew our pitch which were fortunate to be able to do using funds from the bequest of Colin Rowell and a grant from the Football Foundation.
Unfortunately we have to announce that Amy Tinkler who was to be our ‘guest of honour’ can not now attend. It is good news for Amy though in that she has been called up as an injury replacement to represent Team GB at the America Cup in New Jersey, New York and has to attend a training camp with team Gb before they depart to America. Good Luck from all at the Club Amy and we look forward to seeing you at HP sometime in the future. Our guests include our local MP Helen Goodman, The Mayor of Bishop Auckland Ann Golightly along with County and Town Councillors. More of this later this week!
We have pencilled in Thursday March 23rd at 7 pm for our Interim Shareholders Meeting where we will be putting forward changes to our Company Articles of Association for agreement by our Shareholders. We have also set a provisional date of Thursday 13th July for our Annual General Meeting of Shareholders.
