Early next month will see the Two Blues welcome one of the regions home-grown footballing stars to Heritage Park for a ‘Sports Night.’
Lee Clark made his name on Tyneside as part of Kevin Keegan’s legendary Entertainers side of the nineties, winning the first of his three, ‘old’ First Division titles with Newcastle United in 1993 before helping the Magpies finish runners-up in the Premier League in 1996 and 1997 before moving to Sunderland.
It was there he would lift his second title, helping the Wearsiders to promotion in 1999, repeating the feat with Fulham in 2001, a spell which saw him play Premier League football since 1997 after he left Sunderland under a cloud.
That cloud being an incident at the 1999 FA Cup final when watching his beloved Magpies, the Wallsend-born footballer spotted amongst the Toon Army wearing a somewhat, worded t-shirt mocking his then employers.
Anyway, following his spell in London with Fulham, he returned to see out his playing career at Newcastle making a further 20+ appearances during the 2005-06 season before joining then-manager Glenn Roeder’s backroom staff, following him to Norwich the following year.
Clark made his own managerial moves in 2008 when in the November, he joined Huddersfield Town, setting a few records along the way during a relatively successful spell with the club.
Following a ninth-place finish in his first season he led the club to consecutive play-offs, and set a club record 25-game unbeaten run in the league which was extended into following season stretching to an impressive 43 games, a Football League record.
Since he left Huddersfield in 2012 Clark has gone on to have spells managing Birmingham. Blackpool, Kilmarnock, Bury, and as of the start of this season, National League North side, Blyth Spartans.
It’ll be an evening of fun and laughter, stories from the Entertainers era at St. James, an insight into being a Magpie on Wearside, and so much more….
Taking place on Friday 1 November from 7:30pm kick-off, get yourselves in at £15 ticket or £120 for a table of 10 which includes a pie and pea supper, contact Steve Coulthard on 07968426817 for tickets.
