Bishop Ladies back on FA Cup duty, Redcar-bound

The romance of the FA Cup falls upon Bishop Auckland Ladies once again this weekend as they make the short trip over Teesside, and Redcar Town Ladies, in the First Qualifying Round.

In defeating Penrith Ladies away on their opening game of the 2019-20 season, Natasha Napier bagging a brace along with goals from Katie Raine and Danielle Parker in the 4-2 win set the Two Blues up nicely.

The league campaign began in style two weeks back in Chester-Le-Street as Sophie Wood bagged a brace against the Amazons, Leah Curry and Robyn Molloy also netting in an impressive 4-0 success making it eight goals in two outings.

Opponents Redcar meanwhile began their season back in mid-August with a 13-0 whitewash of visitors Washington in the Women’s FA Cup, Jess Round (5) and Kenzie Parkes (4) with the majority; this was followed up with a 5-0 win at home to Lumley Ladies, Round with a hat-trick to set up the tie with Bishops, Redcar’s third successive home cup tie (and Bishops second on the road).

In the league Redcar opened with a 7-1 home win over Ryton & Crawcrook before losing last weekend when away to Wallsend BC Ladies, a tough Tyneside side registering a 2-0 win.

In a recent statement, BAFC Ladies manager, Barry Procter, said: “I’ve really enjoyed pre-season working with some top-shelf players in both the ladies and development squads, and some fantastic coaches too.

“We managed to squeeze in some extra friendlies in pre-season against some tough opposition and overall I am pleased with the way things have gone.

“I would like to say a huge well done to our captain this season, Robyn Molloy, who has earned the honour of the armband with her overall commitment to the club as well as the encouragement and supporting players old and new from both teams.

“She exudes positivity towards the club, the coaches and the players.

“Leah Curry is our Vice Captain for the Ladies Team this season and again her commitment to the club, teams, players and Coaching staff has been fantastic.

“Between them both I can safely say the team and club are in safe hands.”

Bishop Auckland Ladies travel to Redcar Town Ladies in the Women’s FA Cup First Qualifying Round THIS Sunday, 22 September – kick-off at 2PM (Redcar Town FC, Trunk Road, Redcar, TS10 5BW).
