Before the Club’s final game of the season at Heritage Park (the League Cup Semi-Final against Newcastle Benfield), Club Chairman Nick Postma met with Colin Myers and Colin informed Nick that he was resigning from his position as team manager after the game.
In accepting Colin’s resignation Nick thanked Colin and his management team of Dion Riatt and John Bottenschein for all the hard work in trying to turn around the team’s fortunes after taking over at the beginning of the season with all the problems they encountered after an unsuccessful ‘close season’ recruitment and the resultant unsatisfactory start to the season – the season started on 5th August with the Extra-Preliminary Round of the FA Cup and the Club didn’t get its first points on board until Monday 28th August when we beat Penrith 3-2 at Heritage Park.
Colin told Nick he wished to thank to Board of Directors for the support they have given him over the season and that he is personally devastated that he hasn’t been able to improve the Club’s fortunes this season despite all the hard work he and his team have put in.
With a magnificent performance tonight against Newcastle Benfield, winning on penalties to go through to the League Cup Final on may 12th at Consett it is only fitting that Colin leads the team for one last time in the Final against Dunston UTS.
With the Club’s First Division status being confirmed as a result of the Sunderland RCA v Jarrow Roofing score, the Board of Directors will meet shortly to discuss the appointment of a new Team Manager as soon as possible.
