Our League form has suffered since our game against Guisborough but we know our team is more than capable of turning things around. After our disappointing performance against Ashington last week we went to Seaham in the league Cup where we had a convincing 4-1 victory with yet another hat trick from AJ. It will be interesting to find out who we will meet in the next round as there is a good mix of sides left in the competition.
It was great news to be able announce that we will host the FA Youth Cup 3rd Round Game Middlesbrough v Rotherham United. What a great opportunity for us all to see possible football stars of the future.
It looks likely that subject to them getting approval from the FA and the National League that Darlington 1883 will play their first League game at Blackwell Meadows on December 3rd against Salford. During the time Darlington have been tenants at Heritage Park the two Clubs have established and maintained a good working relationship certainly on our part mainly due to the work of Director Terry Jackson but also through the work of Darren Maughan and his staff in the function room and the ground staff who helped prepare the pitch for both clubs. Darlington play Marine in the FA Trophy on Sunday 27th November with a 3pm kick-off in what could well be their last game at Heritage Park.
It’s great to see the membership of the 500 club which was recently launched, increasing well and heading towards the target of 500 members. Many thanks to Richard Cooke and Kevin Illingworth for all the time they have put into the project so far. Like everyone I will look forward to the first draw at the end of January; what a great time to win a big money prize.
Christmas raffle tickets are now on sale and if you haven’t already bought any then you will have the opportunity at our home games before the draw takes place in December and if you are able to sell any books then please get in touch with Terry Jackson.
I have just placed a big order for club merchandise with local company Cre8tive Graphics so look out very soon for our new exciting range on our website. Items include a range of clothing and merchandise including ice scrapers, key rings, more about book marks and even a limited edition BAFC teddy.
We are also delighted to launch our new ‘Radio Station’ at the home game against Washington on Saturday 26th November. Our Head of PR Dean Maynard will organise things and provide live match commentary of our games.
We have also purchased a video camera to record our matches. Highlights will be posted online as soon as we can after matches and the videos can also be used by the team management when discussing performances and tactics with the team. We want to record all home and away matches so we will most likely need a pool of people to support this project which will also include editing the recordings and posting them on the internet. If you would like to support us, then please get in touch with Richard Cooke at any of our games.
One of our aims as Directors is to continually increase our income so we can increase the players budget and so I am delighted to announce that Dave Mills, former Director of Darlington 1883, has agreed to lead on our commercial activities on a voluntary basis. Dave took over as one of the main Directors of Darlington when they were placed in the Northern League and was the main driver in Darlington rising through the ranks to get where they are today through his work building up their commercial / sponsorship activities from virtually nothing to sustaining a National League North side. We are looking to build a team to support Dave and his work so if anyone can spare some time in our commercial team then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
The future is very exciting………….
