Our great FA Cup run came to an end at Stockport County on Saturday in our 2-0 defeat against a team playing three divisions higher than us. We started well keeping possession skilfully for the first half hour but suffered a setback when Stockport’s Danny Lloyd put the Conference North team 1-0 in front with their first real chance of the game.
AJ had a chance to make it 1-1 but the Stockport keeper made a good save and then Stockport extended their lead when their ‘man of the match’ Danny Lloyd scored his second with a shot to make it 2-0.
The lads came out in the second half and certainly did everything they could to get back into the game but it was in the second half that Stockport’s experience playing at a higher level week in and week out made the difference and they certainly put our defence under pressure but our lads coped magnificently.
I would like to thank each and every one of our 300+ fans who travelled to Stockport on Saturday. Every one shouted and sang their hearts out in support of our team and I can certainly say that our Club’s reputation was enhanced both on and off the pitch on Saturday.
It’s back to the League now, every point will be fought for, with games on Wednesday night away to Washington and on Saturday away to West Allotment Celtic.
